GOOD WIN FOR SWIFTS Mutt- uul YS itritidc pla\cd the pun cipil o irae it the B tsiu Re-ei\e the former side winning.by 3 goals to 2 after a contest in which both elevens displayed more vigour than skill. Swifts doinijiiated the play in the first halt" to lend, 2-0, at the interval and although the Waterside men rallied in the secontl spell | they were not good: enough, and Swifts' victory was well-deserved. Longbdttom; Hastings, A. ■ Longbottom, Goggin; Nicolle, Dunsmuir, Marshall, Patterson, Parle. Waterside kicked offy facing the sun and the whole of the-Swifts' vanguard was immediately prominent iv hot work round the Waterside goal., Nicolle and Mai--shall were responsible for the less frequent Waterside attacks, but the former was shooting from too' far out and the latter was too well marked by the Swifts' backs. Gibbons was in the thick of the play,'and although-hard pressed lie kept his goal safe until he fumbled the ball when trying to clear well out from the goal, and Shankie robbed him of it and shot into. an empty net. Swifts 1, Waterside-0. . Nicolle and Marshall attacked for aWterside, btii the latter"s hot shot was cleared by Bradford and a moment ' later the Swifts' forwards, in a bunch, swept through the disorganised Waterside defence, and. Shankie rattled the roof of the net with a short rising shot.'' Swifts 2,' Waterside 0. Swifts were definitely on top-at "this stage, with the harassed Waterside nieu concentrating on defence. ' Shankie fired a shot at Gibbons's feet and Kelly rushed the ball well over the goal line, but the ball was quickly cleared and; the referee allowed no goal. Faulty' shooting and poor finishing spoilt more Of Swifts' chances before half-time.
Swifts drew further ahead a .few minutes after the resumption when Hamill scored well. Swifts 3, Waterside 0. Then followed a long period of uninteresting midfield play, during which Waterside showed to more advantage than they had in the first spell,^Nicolley now- playing centre-forward,. and ' Marshall at outside right. -Waterside registered their first goal from a thrillingmelee near the Swifts' citadel, Nicolle finally piloting the ball past Bradford, who was lying on the ground. Swifts 3, Waterside 1. A. Longbottom hit the upright with' a long shot, and a Waterside -man just failed to find the net •irom-, a-rebound,.,-Towards the ffill.-,waterside attabted-strongly and Nicolte agaiu-iJielped,She;ball on its way into;thenetout of Bra'dford's-reach, makm&.the final score: Swifts 3, Waterside 2.
