EATE OP EXCHANGE
PRODUCERS' INTERESTS
A remit from Southland was put forward at today's meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union advocating that the present rate of exchange is in the interests of the whole community, as well as the primary industries, and that it should be continued until international adjustments of finance arc stabilised.
The mover said he did not know how many of the fanners would have carried on but for the' alteration in the exchange rate. i
The remit provoked little discussion, and was not adopted. A South Taranaki remit on the same subject yyas moved as an amendment and met with, the approval, of the meeting. The text of the South Tavanaki remit was that with a continuation of low market prices the present rate of exchange should not be abandoned at the end of the export season unless the benefits to tho producer arc safeguarded by some- other means.
