DOUBLE FOE RIDDLE

FINAL DAY AT RANDWICK

(From "Vedette.")

SYDNEY, June 14.

V. Riddle had a successful final day at Randwiek for the 1933-34 season, winning two races with Windbird and' Watson, both smart young horses who will go ou to ' better things. •

' Windbird, a three-year-old by Magpie from Orage, was not supported with the spirit originally intended because of the softish track. He has all the aversion to mud common to his breed; .In the race, however, he galloped very freely, and apart from momentarily in the straight avoided the loose patches. Under pressure he went on and won narrowly from the popular Bill Wedgewood and the grey Mafoota in a close finish.

. Watson, the ex-trotting trainer's: other winner, also had to be driven out to 'score. He is a lightly-rbuilt; colt by Constant Son, but in the way he worried the opposition, out of victory he showed tliat he does not lack coinage. Fresh tactics were tried on the Liinond filly \Limyris. M.'McCarten rode her to the flout and tried to win all. the1-way, whereas in her earlier races she has come from behind. The change was almost successful; for she fought off Watson almost to the last .stride. .It showed her to be a better filly.than hitherto supposed. The Heroic colt Heritor finished well with not much galloping room on the rails, and First.Son probably would have won had he run kindly in ;,the straight. He lugged in all.the. time and his rider ■was straightening :him' instead of riding him. He was then only ineKes-aivay in fourth' place.* ■.":..: ■■. ■'.•-.;,.".. \\.-." '•.'■.'*
