COUNCIL MEETING
Tho council of ; the Boyal Society of New Zealand met today under the presidency of Professor E. Speight (Christchurch). The following members were present:—Mr: •B:• C. "Aston, Mr. M. A. Elliott, Dr. E. . Marsden, and Mr. W. B. B. Oliver, Government representation j Professor H. B. Kirk and Di\ E. Kidson, Wellington* Philosophical Society; Professor ..H. W. Segar and Mr. A. T. Pycroft, Auckland Institute; Dr. C. Coleridge Farr, Canterbury Philosophical Institute; Dr. F. J. Turner, Otago Institute; Mr. G. V. Hudson, Hawke's Bay Philosophical Institute; Dr. P. Marshall, co-opted member. Apologies, for absence were received from Professor .T. H.. Easterfield (Nelson Institute) and Professor J. Park (Otago Institute).' , ' After tribute had : been paid to deceased members, special resolutions, proposed by Professor Kirk and Dr. Marsden respectively, were passed relative to the deaths of Mr. ~G. M. Thomson and Professor D. M.- Y. Soinmerville.
Aftei- some ■ discussion it was resolved that titles of Fellows in future would be F.B.S.N.Z. AH Fellows of the New Zealand Institute, which body is now known as the Royal Society of New Zealand, will be entitled to use these letters after their names.
The following were elected honorary members of the ..Royal Society of New Zealand:—Dr. E. C. Andrews, Dr. P. Buck, Professor A.- H. Ooinptcn, and Professor W. J. Gatenby;
Mr. L. C. King was announend as the winner of the Hamilton' Award for his geological work. No allocation was made of the Hector Award. ;
Tho thanks of the council were extended to his .Excellency the GovernorGeneral,, Lord. Blcdisloe, for his message, which is published elsewhere in this issue. ...
