Only eight of tho counties were engaged in championship match play in tho scries of fixtures concluded today, the other matches of note being that in. which the Australians met Cam-, bridge University- and tho YorkshireOxford University engagement. In the county matches some good scores were registered and some excellent bowling figures returned. O'Connor and Watson scored centuriea in the championship matches, as did Leyland for Yorkshire, for whom SutelifEe made a good double. Chalk made a three-figure score for Oxford University. Peebles bowled with success in each innings for Middlesex, and Goddard took eight wickets in an innings for Gloucestershire. Tate (Sussex)' was among others to show bowling form of some account. At The Oval Warwickshire and Surrey had an interesting match, the home team being beaten by two runs on the first innings. The results are:—

Middlesex v. Gloucestershire, at Lord's.—Gloucestershire, 351 (Sinfield 83, Hammond 72, Lyon 91; Peebles sis for 107) and 119 (Peebles five for 53); Middlesex, 213 (Goddard eight for 132) and 197 (Parker four for 46). Gloucestershire won by GO runs.

Surrey t v. Warwickshire, at The Oval. —Surrey, 213 (Paine fivo for 72) and 222 for six .wickets; Warwickshire, 215. | Warwickshire won on the first innings. : Essex v. Sussex, at Hove.—Essex, 197 (Tatc four for 59) and 289 (O'Connor [112; Tato four for 62); Snssex, 220 j (Nichols fivo for 48) and 168 for two wickets (Melvillo 84, John Langridgo 73 not out). Sussex won on the first I innings.

Lancashire v. Somerset, at Manchester.—Lancashire, 339 for six wickets, declared (Watson 143); Somerset, 66 and 114 (Booth five for 49). Lancashire won by an innings and 159 runs. " • ■

Yorkshire v. Oxford University, at Oxford.—Yorkshire, 351/(Sutcliffc 60, Loyland 100). and 161 for two wickets, declared (Suteliffe 63 not out); Oxford University, 256 (Chalk 135) and 112 for six wickets. Match, drawn.
