Obituary. -~."." The many friends of MrSi Sara Howe* will regret to learn of her death which, took place at Napier on Monday..Mrs. Howes was born in Leaminton in, 1854, arriving in New Zealand in-1874 by- theAvalanche on her maiden trip. She lived jn Wellington for many years, and later at Petone and Napier. She was a member of St. Thomas's Church. in-Newto'wn, and was one of the foundation members of the Band of Hope.She also belonged to -the Mothers* Union in Lady Glasgow's time. : --Mrs* Howes was not a public worker, buC was1 known for her- kindly and generoua disposition. Mr. Howes predeceased; her eight, ana a half years ago. She, leaves two: daughters, Mrs. :H. Meicerj (Petone), Mrs. A. Forsyth. (Napier),; and' three sons, Messrs. Frank {Wellington), Thomas (Petone), and-Wil-liam (Wanganui), also fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A pleasant afternoon was spent ie j eently at the Universityl Women's' Club rooms, (when members took the opportunity to say "Au; Revoir" : to" Mrs. Soinmerville, who is leaving shortly on. an extended visit to England. Mrs. Soinmerville has been one of the club's most enthusiastic members, and she will be greatly missed during her'absence abroad. Hearty wishes for a happy; voyage and a safe return were expressed by all present. During the' afterkoon; Miss Vera Moginie . entertained ■ tho gathering with two/charming songs, and Miss Van Staveren-and Miss Bind gave amusing elocutionary items. Kve O'clock Party. ; A very enjoyable "Fivev CClocls Party" was given by Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Tripe and Mr. and -Mrs;-P. H. Whatley last evening." Halliwell, who left yesterday for an. extended visit to Wellington and the South Island. During the. afternoon she was the recipient of a handsome crystal necklace with a diamond clasp and earrings to match.
