CHARITY BALL

PRELIMINARY MEETING

Well over sixty ladies and gentlemen, representative of all parishes, attended the preliminary meeting recently in connection with the twelfth annual Charity Ball in aid of the funds of the St. Vincent do Paul Society for the relief of distress, to be held on June 20.

The Bey. Dr. Meßae, who presided, stressed the necessity of raising funds j and urged one and all to even greater efforts,this year, as distress was widespread. He was sure that public support would be accorded the function again this year as in the past, for all sections of the community realised and appreciated the value b£ the work performed by tho society. The following conveners of sub-com-mittees were elected:—Supper, ColonelE. L. Evatt; hall, Mr. T; B. Gusscotty invitations, Mr.OT. L. Byah; -staffing,l Mr. J, Stratford; finanee^Mr. P. WUliams; publicity, Mr. P. A. Lawlor. Sir." P. B. Hoskins, K.e.B:G., was elected general supervisor,, and Colonel J. 'G. Eoaehe hon;~ secretary. - - — £..-_.. ~-. It was decided to refer t)ie question of introducing old-time dances to the hall stsi-eomniittefe. '"' '■ ■—•-"-' It. was reported that Miss Alice Gray and a band of ladies had gone into the question of a novel and- attractive decorative scheme with excellent results. JMr. Eyan pointed out the necessity of a representative of every parish assisting m. the issue of invitations, which would be done as soon as possible Stating that last year thirty-nine debutantes had been presented to his Grace Archbishop O'Shea, Mr. Hoskins expressed the hope that an even larger number would be presented this year the ceremony being most spectacular1 and pleasing. Intending debutantes should immediately send iv their names and addresses to Colonel Eoache It was decided to hold- the next meeting pa May 24 at the rooms of the St' Vincent do Paul Society.
