GARDEN FETE
JOHNSONVILLE EFFORT
During the past month several fune: tions have been held in Johnsonville by various organisations to raise money to assist the depleted finances of the Mayor's Unemployment Relief Funds. To take their part in this worthy effort the pupils and staff of the Johnsonville Public School last week held a very successful garden fete in the school grounds. The school was open to visitors all the afternoon and, working to a time-table, the various classes gave short entertainments of singing, recitation, and dancing. The school choir also entertained with a programme of concerted numbers. Finally all the children of the standard classes gave a massed drill display, which was much enjoyed by the large number of people who attended. A well-stocked stall, which was ably controlled by the school prefects, did good business all the afternoon, and the tearooms were also well patronised.
The function resulted in £10 being raised as the school's contribution to the relief funds. . The scholars ana teachers were congratulated upon this excollent result.
