SMITH FAMILY
' ACTIVITIES REVIEWED
The second annual meeting of the Smith Family Joyspreaders (Inc.) was held last night, there being a fair attendance.
In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (summarised in yesterday's "Post"), the chairman stated that the Family hoped again to carry on the free milk issue to delicate and undernourished childreu in the Wellington schools. He read a number of letters from parents and school committees bearing testimony to the excellent effects of the milk ration. He hoped that, liberal support woiild be given to the scheme. Appreciation of the support accorded to the Family by the Press was warmly received, and the chairman made special reference to the splendid service which had been given not only to the Smith Family but to the community generally by "The Padre, 2ZW."
In answer to a question the chairman stated that no relief was given unless the case had been thoroughly investigated, and overlapping was reduced to a minimum by co-operation with other societies, especially the Mayor's Relief Fund and the Returned Soldiers' Association. Relief had cost £3543, ■ excluding the value of the great quantities of clothing, boots, and furniture which were collected and distributed.
It was reported that the members of the staff had made clothing to the value of £300, and various groups of ladies had made garments worth £500 fi-om material supplied^y the Family. The meeting passed a vote of thanks to the directors'and the staff for the manner in which they had conducted the affairs of the Family.
