Messrs. B. C. Aston and W. E. B. Oliver have been appointed members of the council of the Koyal Society of New Zealand.

Mr. T. J.'Maling has been appointed a member of the New Zealand Wool Committee, in place of Mr. Ri L. M. Kitto, who has resigned.

Mr. A. G. Saunders, 8.A., who has :ome to "Wellington to take up'the work if minister in charge of the Vivian Street Church of Christ, was educated it Bethany College, near Pittsburgh, and at' the College of Missions .Postgraduate School, Indianapolis, United States; also at the University of Western Australia. He has for the last four years been in charge of the Subiaeo Church of Christ, Perth, Western Australia. For some years he was a missionary in the Philippine Islands, and was principal of the mission training college tKere; he also taught in the Union Theological Seminary at Manila. At one time ho was Federal forciga missionary secretary of the Australian . Churches of Christ, and was president of conference both in Victoria and Western Australia. Mrs. Saunders was Miss A. Masters, formerly of Wellington, who trained as a "nurse at Invercargill, and was for some time engaged in missionary work in China. Mr; Saunders will commence his duties in, Wellington on Sunday, and the evening service at the Vivian Street Church of Christ will be broadcast. A,public welcome will be accorded to Mr. and Mrs. Saunders next Wednesday. The death occurred at his residence, Te Whiti, Wairarapa, yesterday, of Mr. Henry Pike, after an illness extending over several months. ' The late ■ Mr. Pike was born at Taita, seventy years ago. He went to the ■ Wairarapa 63 years ago, and had Tesided at Te Whiti ever since, following the occupation of fanning. He was a member of the Masterton A. and P. Association, and took" a lively interest in all agricultural shows. The late Mr. Pike was a very good horseman and an excellent judge of horses. He was of a quiet disposition, and did not take an active part in public life. He was Tery popular and greatly respected, especially in. the Longbush and Te Whiti districts, where his death will be greatly regretted, states the "Wairarapa Daily Times." He is. survived by a widow, two sons (Mr. E. H. Pike, police constable, Feilding, and Mr. A. "W. Pike, of the staff of Messrs. C. B. Daniell, Ltd., Masterton), and one daughter (Mrs. E. J. B. Scott, Te Whiti). Messrs. Len, Walter, and Fred..Pike, Te Whiti, are brothers of the deceased. The funeral took place this afternoon, the interment being at the Mastertoa Cemetery.
