OBITUAEY

MR. JAMES MILLER

The death occurred yesterday at his home in Bay Street, Petone, at tlie age of 78 years, of Mr. James Miller, one of the" oldest and most respected residents of the district. My. Miller was born in Glasgow, and later went to Australia in the sailing vessel Sir "Walter Balcigh. In 1883 lie married Miss Ellen Melhuish, a sister of Mr. W. H. Melliuish, of Britannia Street, Petone, and Mrs. J. Southgate, of Masterton. For a number of years Mr. Miller was engaged in a seafaring life, being attached to such well-known. Union Company vessels as the Ringarooma, the Ara-' wata, and the Wairarapa. During the time ho was on the last-named vessel the late Mr. Mouat was cliief engineer, and Mr. W. G. Lodder, of Petone, was second engineer. In 1893 Mr. Miller settled in Petone. Tot forty-one years ho was connected with the Gear Meat works. Mrs. Miller died three and a half years ago. He leaves a family of one daughter, Mrs. W. J. Wakelin, of Petone, and four sons. Messrs. James, William, and Alex. Miller, of Petone, and Mr. George Miller of Melbourne. '

The funeral will leave the residence, Ba5 r Street, at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow for the Taita Cemetery.
