BOXING TONIGHT.
Joe Franklin,- New Zealand lightweight champion and holder of the ''Truth" Belt, will this evening make his first appearance in the ring since becoming titleholder. Franklin is essentially a fighter, a big percentage of his victories having been gained through knock-outs, and there is | much speculation as to whether Fitzgerald will become another victim. The Gisborne boy is a erowd-pleaser, and the public may expect an exciting ahd thrilling contest. His weight is 9st 21b, and he will therefore be giving away a few' pounds to the Australian. He is the Tommy DonoI van type of pugilist, sturdy and strong, with terrific weight behind his punch. He is a" great believer in manual labour. During his training he spends two hours per day with an axe in the bush, and this exercise is largely responsible for his great power. The four amateur preliminaries will be up to the usual Wellington standard, and will be a fitting"opening for' the main event. The bos plan is open until 6 i , o'clock this evening.
