A DOUR STRUGGLE
I The second day's play in the match between Wellington College Old Boys and Petone at the Petone Recreation Ground gave rise to a dour, struggle. Old Boys in their first innings made 254, and before stumps were drawn on the first day Petone had put on 48 runs without loss. Continuing, Petone had to fight hard for runs, but they reached their opponents' score for the loss of only six wickets. No Petone player made a big score, but seven of them made between 30 and 40 each, so the total was a good team effort. The Old Boys' attack was of a good standard and well varied. Petone batted evenly all the way, and in that the performance was a highly creditable one. Seven batsmen passed the 30 mark, but none succeeded in reaching 40.
