Thorndon's promising beginning against Petone was. not sustained, though the game was keenly contested to the end. Petone: took .the lead on the ninth, but by the time the sixteenth head was played the pairs were on equal terms, 10-all. Getting to 14, Petone stayed there, and that score was just good enough to win, Thorndon getting a 2 and a 1' on the last two heads to be 1 down at the finish. Central went away to a good lead (starting off .with-a-4) over Victoria, who, however, recovered well and drew level (14-all) on- the seventeenth Ahead. A 4 and 2 on the next two heads placed Central in a commanding position. • Down 7-1 against Kelburn after, eight heads had been A played, Wellington's pair were faced w;ith no easy proposition. They were, equal to hard fighting, however, and a 4 helped them a long-way towards evening up with their opponents, who showed consistently good form. Kelburn then forged ahead; Wellington retaliated strongly, and vnth three heads to go it was anybody's game, the points again being even. Near the finish a very accurate draw was required of Hill to save a position looking good for Kelburn, who were lying.3 on the particular head. Hill drew the shot. Wellington" got home by a point. Hataitai and Seatoun had a sterling tussle, the settlement of which required the playing of an extra head. ' On the seventeenth Seatoun led 18-12,; but' in two-heads the score' was altered to 18-18. Seatoun-gained-.a point on the twentieth, and Hataitai made it a tie. On the extra head Seatoun registered two counters before. McWhannell delivered his last bowl, which, missed picking up the jack by a: bare margin. Nothing, of course, was . required of Glennie's last delivery.
