PONEKE CLUB
I There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the'Poneke Football Club last night, Mr. A. F. Wiren (president) being in the chair.v The annual report, the main features 6f which have been recorded in "The Post," was adopted on the motion of the retiring president, who said the fiftieth anniversary had been appropriately celebrated,, and he thanked the members on behalf of the committee for tlieir support of the gatherings included in the celebration. Mr. Wiren congratulated the teams on the last season's successes, especially the senior, B team, : which had won the championship of •the . grade. He urged members to pay their ■ subscriptions, a number of which, the re- ; port stated, had not been paid. In discussion on various matters, the , payment of subscriptions came in for a . good-deal of mention. Mr. S. S. Dean stressed the fact that the club could not j function without money, and poinded out that the club provided excellent facilities, i for which members should be -willing to j pay.. Other speakers agreed that it was ;
not fair to the club and those- who met their obligations that some members should hot pay their fees. • The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. S. S. Dean; club captain, Mr. H. Wilson; vice-club captain, Mr. H. Hill; hon. secretary, .Mr. F. J. Tilyard; hon. assistant secretary' and treasurer, Mr. J. Payne; hon. auditors, Messrs. R. B. Magee and 0. F. Tilyard > management committee,' Messrs T Js' Booker, T. Crichton, J. Gilbert, C. Quaid! G. Chesterman, B. Algar, and S. R. Murray; delegates to the Wellington Union.Messrs.A. J. Griffiths, S. S. Dean, and A. J.. Wallace; gymnasium committee. Messrs. H. Rountree. F. Aj _es,-A. Morri= and D. Smith. Messrs. A. F. Wiren F Gams, and R. Stewart were added to the ljst.of vice-presidents. The delegates to the union were asked to bring before the annual meeting the method of selection of the Wellington colts team, it being stated that players had been rejected because they were not in the senior A tearii of, the club, although they were in the senior B team and we>_ capable players, which had not been the understanding in the beginning .
