FIRE AT PORIRUA
CABARET DESTROYED
The Riviera Cabaret at Porirua was totally destroyed by fire early on Saturday morning. A fierce southerly gale was blowing when the outbreak was noticed at about 5 a.m.. and within an hour the large wooden building and its contents were reduced to a heap of ashes, only the chimney and the roofing iron remaining. A,private hotel, also a.wooden building about 30 feet.from the site of the cabaret, were endangered by the fire, but water was poured from the roof down the side of the hotel and the damage was thus confined to windows broken by the heat. j\fr. He considers, however, that the settee could have smouldered for a long time before bursting into flames' . -
