APOLLO SINGERS

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

A successful year "measuring up to the high standard of work previously set by the choir" is recorded in the annual report of the committee of'the Wellington Apollo Singers.'.'"'However, we should not feel self-satisfied in" this f&pect," says the report, "but should set ourselves the task of further improving our .work. This can be done in several ways, chicily by more regular attendance at practices. Your committee has been concerned at times over attendance, which has been very disappointing to the committee and the conductor, so much so that it "is difficult to imagine how our work has .been as high aa it has been. Can we earnestly tisk you each to take a complete stocktaking of your attitude,' and to give a more loyal co-operation?" ' • The number of associate' members is greater than it was last year. The ,usual ■ subscription concerts were given,- with increasing popularity. The report congratulates Mr. Temple White, the society's conductor, on the singing of the Wellington Boys' Choir; adding" that it is solely through his ability and musicianship that the Apollo Singers today stand in the forefront as a musical combination) Other activities during the year included a visit to Marsde'n School, where a concert was given, and several studio concerts from 2YA. , ' '" Regret is expressed at the resignation of Mr. JO. J. Retallick, who was associated with the choir' from its jnception, and appreciation of his faithful service is recorded. Mr. L. G. P. Whyte has given notice of his intention to move at the annual meeting on Tuesday evening next:—''That the office of secretary-treasurer bo altered, and that such office be divided' to provide for the office of secretary and the office of treasurer"; and further, "that the rule appertaining to the committee providing for four (4) members on the committee be altered to read five (5)."
