WELLINGTON REGIMENT

WAIPUKURAU CAMP

At the monthly meeting of officers of the Wellington Regiment, final arrangements were discussed in connection with the annual camp at Waipukurau in February next. It was reported that the Hawkc's Bay, Wellington West ' Coast, and Taranaki Regiments had conferred with--headquar-ters of tlie Wellington Regiment with regard to the syllabus of work, sports, entertainment, and social amenities, and that hearty co-operation from all units would be assured. The camp will be one of the biggest held in New Zealand for some years—the estimated attendance being ovei' 1000. Every endeavour is being made to train the members of the Wellington Regiment to a high pitch.of efficiency.

The commanding officer of the Regiment, Lieutenant-U'olonel J. L. Sauuders, D.5.0., stated that intending recruits who were desirous of attending the camp must enrol immediately, and should report to Captain ■ L.- W. Andrew, Y.C.,. at the regimental'headquarters. No uniforms could be issued: for camp after January 31, 1934, so that those interested should make early application for selection and enlistment. Pay according to rank, free rations, and transport \yould be granted to all trainees. There were vacancies in the battalion for drivers, signallers, Lewis gunners, Vickers gunners, and riflemen. The regimental band, together with the pipes and drums, would be in attendance, and it was hoped to organise a review of the massed bands of all regiments before leaving the camp. The band president, reported that the uniform fund was making progress, but it would be some considerable time before the band could be fitted out with the full dress of the battalion's allied* regiment— tSe York and Lancashire Regiment. Early next year, however, it was ■ hoped to order new kilts and tartan trews for the pipe band, which should assist still further in enhancing the prestige of the Wellington Regiment. \
