SEARCHLIGHTS AND TORCHLIGHTS.
An elaborate and ambitious undertaking will be the display at Athletic Park tomorrow (Wednesday) .evening. The promoters have the organisation so complete that patrons are assured of witnessing some very beautiful scenes which will be picked out by powerful searchlight effects. Band music has been arranged to enliven the proceedings. All the band* of the city, including two pipe bands," are taking part, and-will perform en masse as well as separately. ' The ' splendidly trained girls of the Civil Service will appear in a pageant of nations, as will the Legion o£ Frontiersmen in a special march. A multi-coloured torchlight drill in which there will be 250 performers makes a tremendous spectacle, and the parade o£ the "Chocolate Soldiers" is another big attraction. There is also "The Mystery Band." Other popular features will be the Marist schoolboys in physical drill, etc., Jenkins's Studio classes, Miss Kathleen O'Brien's pupils, and humorous items. There will be a grand parade of all taking part, nearly COO, and a grand finale. Proceeds ■will go towards the new Home of Compassion furnishing fund, Toe H orphanage, and the band funds. Should the weather be unfavourable Lhc display will take place on Saturday evening.
