MEAT TRADE BRIGHTER
The Bank o£ New Zealand, Profluce Department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—The market is short of supplies of wether mutton and prices are nominal. The market is firm for ewes. Lower prices for lambs are expected in the near future owing to larger supplies arriving. There is -a fair demand for beef; Trade generally is brighter, with a better demand. Wethers, light 4V4d to 5%d per lb, heavy 3 5-8 dto 4 l-8d; ewes, 3d to 4%d; lambs, 2's 7%d to' Bd, B's 7%d to 8d; ox hinds, 2%d to 3d; ox fores, 2%d to 2y 2 d.
Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated December 15, reporting that as compared with last week's quotations, wethers, 56-721b, are~3-8d per lb higher.. Ewes, under 481b, l-8d per lb higher. - Bee.f, l-8d per lb higher. The lamb market, on the spot is quiet and is likely to go lower. Mutton market on the spot is very firm.
