FEILDING STOCK SALE

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) FEILDING, December 15. Lambs exceeded export prices at today's stock sale, the approach'of the Christmas season' stimulating butchers. ' There was a £ood market for fat sheep all round, hoggets particularly sharing -with lambs in" the good prices. Wethers were not in keen demand, but fat ewes were firm at recent x'ates. There . was only a small yarding of store, sheep, which could not give a fair indication of the present state of the market. All sections of the cattle market were quiet. The ' fat pens were chiefly dairy breeds of cows and heifers, for which butchers showed no enthusiasm. The dairy' stock, of which the yarding was unattractive' was not in demand, and prices reached low levelt Of store cattle, some pens sold at recent rates, but the market generally was easy. Prices were: — Fat Bheep: Fat hoggets, primest, 25s 4d to 26s Od; prime, 21s 7d to 23s 6d; good, 19a to 20s; inferior, 10s 9d. Leading farmers in the Feilding district have repeatedly approached the Manawatu Auctioneers' Association with the view of establishing a weekly- fat stock market. The association has now decided to hold these sales, and the first will be held on Thursday, January 11.. In the flush of the season the heavy offerings of fat lambs and sheep at the ordinary sale held every Friday have hitherto met'with-restricted competition, and although the returns have been highly satisfactory to farmers, butchers,.and a number of exporters, .have- riot been able ,to operate because purchasers cannot have their stock killed until the following week. THe establishment of a fat stock sale to be held every Thursday will overcome this difficulty. The alteration does not affect the- sales of store sheep and cattle, which will be held as hitherto regularly every Friday. Entries for the Thursday sales will be confined to fat lambs, fat'sheep, and fat cattle. Store sheep and cattle sent in on that daywill be held over, • and submitted at the. store stock sale on the following day.
