CHIEF CLERK RETIRES
RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
Last Saturday the staffs of the .Research Department, Dominion Laboratory, Geological Survey, Dominion -Observatory, and Meteorological Office entertained at morning tea Mr. G. E. Sadd, chief clerk of the Department, on tho occasion "of his retirement from the Public Service. Dr. E. Marsden, who presided, referred to Mr. S.add's excellent record in the Public Service. He had been chief clerk of the Research Department since its inception in 1926, and every member of the staff very much regretted his leaving, because he had earned their esteem through unfailing courtesy and his thorough knowledge of departmental work. All, however, were happy in the knowledge that Mr. Sadd was retiring with the prospect of enjoying many useful years in which he could engage in the numerous interests he had at heart. Mr. W. E. Arnold, Government Life Insurance Department, and Mr. E. S. Innes, Chief Audit Inspector, *vho had been associated with Mr. Sadd in other departments, also spoke of his sterling worth as a colleague. Dr. Marsden, on behalf of the combined staffs, then presented Mr. Sadd with a Westminster chiming clock, and Mrs. Sadd with a salad bowl. Mr. Sadd, in reply, stated that the occasion left him with very mixed feelings. He was deeply grateful for the loyal support and assistance he had always received from those with whom ho came in contact in various departments, and ho thanked all for the handsome presents made to himself and Mrs. Sadd.
