BAND CONTEST
♦ —, JUDGE APPOINTED Captain George Buckley, conductor of tho Auckland Municipal Artillery Band, has been appointed adjudicator at the New Zealand championship contest to be held in Wellington next. February. Captain Buckley has won considerable fame as a conductor and cornet soloist. At the 1927 championship contest held in Wellington, judged by Mr. Halliwell, the famous English conductor, the Queen Alexandra Regimental Band from Wanganui, conducted by Mr. Buckley, was the winner, and tho same success attended the band and its conductor in the following year's contest at Christchurch. Captain Buckley's record as a cornet soloist is well known throughout Australia and New Zealand. Tho late Ord Hume, of England, in awarding the "possible" to Mr. JBuckley, said: "I have had the honour of adjudicating England's best soloists during recent years, but this is the first occasion on which I have awarded tho .maximum points possible to a cornet soloist." ■ Although Captain Buckley has adjudicated .at minor district contests in the past, this is the first occasion when he will be judging at the big annual Dominion championship band carnival.
