' ■ ■ . \ (Special to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND; November 29,
Strong denunciation of th 6 tone of niiK-h of, the literature of •'today-was made by "Archbishop Averill wheir ad-_ dressing the.Auckland Mothers? Union at the .annual-festival in St. Mary Is Cathedral. The basis of the Archbishop's address was a call to renewal which is being made from .the London headquarters of the Others' Union' to branches throughout the world.
"We all know that a very definite attempt is being made to ignore the teaching of Christ and His standard of morality, and to speak of it as oldfashioned and out of date; to despise the marriage tie and encourage sex licence; and even to ignore ana-rifli-cule any idea of moral and spiritual control of discipline," the Archbishop' said. » "Much of Uiu .modern literature— w great deal of it, unfortunately, written by women—ris nauseating and seeks to degrade the life of ratto'nal and spiritual beings to the level of the animals. It contains an. utterly perverted-:idoa| of what is natural to man find woman made in the image of God, 'and it speaks of self-expression in terms. of' sex expression as the normal'life of -human beings. Much of this literature is a gross libel upon womanhood generally and is calculated ,to'^ deceive j and poison tho minds of the young and thoughtless;'' / ■' ,
