SISTERS IN GOLF

A very unusual incident occurred in the third round of the girls' golf championship of Great Britain recently, the winner-of a match bursting into tears becauso she had won. Tho match, contested very closely, was between sisters, Pam Barton, aged'l6|,' and Mervyn Barton, aged 18}. The younger girl won at the nineteenth hole. Then, after her sister had shaken hands with her, she wept, and said: "It's a hateful thing to have to beat your own sister, but there it is. I wish Mervyn could have won, because this is her last chance, while. I have two more years to go." Pam Barton was beaten in tho semi-finals by Jesgie Anderson, the Scottish girl who won the title. This semifinal was an excellent one also, the English giri being one up at the turn, in 39, but the Scottish girl, taking two under bogey for tho next eight holes, won t>vo up and one.to play.
