An'intense anticyclone still extends over the South Island with its centre in the neighbourhood of the (Chatham Islands, while a depression lies to the1 north pf- New Zealand. Strong southeast winds have prevailed about and north,of JCook Strait, but they have moderated considerably since last night. In the. South Island winds, have been- legs strong in force and more variable in direction, although this morning fresh ..north-easterlies .were blowing along the east coast. The weather' has been cloudy, and misty .with, light, scattered rain in the northern and east coast portions of the North Island, and at 9 a.m. today drizzling rain was, falling in Chris'tehureh.
