PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Mayor (Mr. D. McKenzie) presided at last evening's meeting of the -\Petone Borough Council. The Commissioner of Unemployment (Mr. G. C. Godfrey) wrote notifying that tho Unemployment Bureau had been shifted from the rear of the council building, and thanking the council for the use of the premises, rent free. The Petone Beautifying - and Foreshore Improvement Society sent a letter conveying appreciation of the work being done on the foreshore and in other, parts of the borough. It was felt that the improvements being effected were a benefit to the whole of the town, and that the Beach Beautifying and Reserves Committee were to be congratulated on the good work being done. . ' ' The Beautifying Society were granted the use of the foreshore and Recreation Ground for the annual carnival from December 26 to January 2. The Town Clerk said the Beautifying Society was placing seven scats between Cuba and Jessje Streets, and seven more seats would be placed in position after the carnival. . The Heretaungii Boating Club advised that a yachting regatta would be held at Christmas, with visitors taking part, and asked for permission to erect one or two tents in McEwan Park. The council decided to grant permission at the usual rates.
