WRESTLING CARNIVAL
IN AID OF SMITH FAMILY
The lighter side of wrestling, together with some serious work, was seen at the Town Hall last night when a programme was presented by local amateurs in aid of the Smith Family's funds. A number of the contestants were very young- but showed that they had absorbed many of the flricks of the trade, and their antics in the ring proved highly diverting to a fairly large house. At the conclusion of several of the bouts small change was thrown into the ring,, and this helped materially to sw-11 the proceeds. On behalf of the Smith Family, Secretary Smith thanked all those who had helped to make the carnival a success. The results were:— L. Nolan (Bst 41b) drew with A. Austin (9st 51b). There were no falls. R. Mautner (list lib) retired with an injured leg in his bout with S. Lack (list). Eoss Bing (3at 41b) drew with Ralph Jenkins (3at 61b) in midget contest. C. Lowe (12stl21b) drew with L. Short (12st v2lb). Short took a fall right at the start and Lowe equalised near the finish. Teddy Wright (4st 41b) drew with Henry Greatback (4st 61b) in a humorous midget contest. S. Scott (lOst) drew with 0. Mautner (lOst) in a lively bout. ' The audience derived a lot of fun from the bout between "Caveman* Mulholland and "Tiny" McLaughlan whose weight and age were far from being correctly represented by tfieir nicknames. , L. Boe '9st 51b) drew with R. Greeks (Ost 8!b), each taking a fall. R. Godfrey (list 121b) defeated F. Upchurch (list 81b) on, points. A comedy turn was provided by two wrestlers, a referee, and a policeman, the wrestlers finally being placed under arrest. Anton Koolman, a local professional, demonstrated a number of holds and then "aye an exhibition bout with P. Razos.
