One of the pleasantest of the 1933 meetings of the song group of the British Music Society was held in the Y.W.C.A., liouleott Street, last Friday, the subject being "Folk Song!" _ Miss Molly Atkinson read a short illuminating introductory paper, "Folk Element in Music," written by Mr. Karl Atkinson, after which folk songs were sung as follows: —Mrs. P. J. Townley, "The Island Herd Maid" and "Pulling The Sea Dulse" (Hebridian); Miss Molly Atkinson, "Far and High the Cranes Give Cry" and "Play Only Play On" (Hungarian); Mr. Arthur Harding, "Widdicombe Fair" (English) and "The Gentle Maiden (Irish); Miss Ella Fair, "A Donegal Lullaby" and "A Ballynure Ballad" (Irish); Miss Christina Young, "Herding Song" (Scotch) and "Carmen Carmela" (Mexican); Miss xlnne Gilpin, "Silent O Moyle" (Irish) and "Raafay Lament" (Highland); Mr. W. Roy Hill, "Strawberry Fair," "The Frog and the Mouse," and. "My Boy Billie" (English); Miss Grace Gaudin, "Early On Morning" (English) and "My Heart is Sair for Somebody" (Scotch); Mrs. E. F. Hollands, "The Ash Grove" (Welsh) arul "Comin' Through the Rye" (Scotch); Miss Irene Hirst, "In Stillen Nacht" and "Och Moden ieh1 well en Dinghau" (German) and "Exaudet's Minuet," yand "En Revenant de Noces" (French)., The pianoforte accompaniments were played by Misses Agnes Duncan, Irene Hirst, and Florence Hobbs.
