DENNIS GUNN CASE RECALLED
BURGLARY CHARGE SUCCEEDS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHKISTCHUBCH, This Day. One of the most famous murder cases in "the history of New Zealand was recoiled in the Supreme Court, when reference was made to the hanging of - Dennis Gunn, whose conviction was secured on finger-print evidence. In the course of a case in which the Crown depended solely on the evidence of two thumb-prints on a sheet of glass, Air. Justice Eeed, referring to finger-print evidence, said that he had defended Dennis Gunn and consequently knew tho uselessness of attempting to combat such evidence. The cas before the Court wa: .nw. in which Albert William' Gauntlett was charged that on August 23 he brofco and entered the shop of SelfHelp Stores in Aldwins Koad and committed theft, and also with breaking and entering the store with intent to commit a crime. '■ ■ Gauntlett unsuccessfully defended his own case, contending that it was impossiblo for finger-prints left on the glass .above a shop doorway to br his. Ho pleaded not guilty. Tho Judge said it was a very clear case. , . •, The jury returned a verdict or guilty, and the accused was remanded for sentence. ,
