RESULT .IN STOKE DISTRICT
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") ' " '.■ "NELSON, This Day. Investigations into the frost .damage to fruit crops in the Nelson, district have iiow'been completed, and it has been ascertained that the loss- is confined to a part of the Stoke district, particularly in orchards nearer the sea. Though frosts were also experienced in the Waimea Plain, Mout*re Hills, Motueka, and Biwaka areas, they wore not heavy enough to result in damage. In the Stoke district twenty-two orchards have been severely affected, Jonathan and Sturmer varieties suffering most.' Tho damage cannot yet be ascertained to, varieties where the fruit is not very far advanced in development. Pears have been seriously affected in' some orchards, and stone fruits have also suffered. It is estimated that the-loss in tho Stoko -district, covering all fruits, will be in the vicinity of 50,000 casest . Late October frosts havo been experienced previously, but this is the first occasion when damage has been done to the fruit erop. This may be attributable to the season being two weeks earlier than usual, resulting in tho fruit being further advanced in development. ..-....,
