i There was a. tendency at present in Australia; to grow some of the varieties of, seeds, such as green peas and grass seeds, that New Zealand had ,bccn sup- j plying, said Mr. E. D. Nimmo, a, Dunedin seed merchant, who returned 1 yesterday by the Wanganella after «, business, trip, to Australia. A big trade -in those lines had been carried on for years between the two countries, particularly in peas, and probably -as 'conditions improved the demand from Australia would return to normal. In Tfasmauia the system of Government certification of grass seeds, especially ryegrass, Ayas similar tp that in operation in New Zealand, and most of the officers of tho Department, of Agriculture in that State were New Zealanders. It was quite likoly that the other States would follow Tasmania's example, which would undoubtedly be successful. • The various State Governments were already encouraging the local growing of grass seeds.
