COUNT HELLDORF'S DENIAL

(Received October 21, 11 a.m.) BEELIN, October 20. Count Helldorf, Police President at Potsdam, described a,3 an "absolute invention" the story that he set fire to the Reichstag. He gave evidence that on the night of the fire he called a conference of Storm Troop leaders and ordered the arrest of leading Communists and Socialists. The accused Torgler" embarrassed tho Court by asking whether Helldorf's orders were given in his official or Storm Troop capacity. Holldorf eventually answered that they were given on his own responsibility. t ■ Answering the accused Dimitroff's question as to what reason he had to believe that Communists and Socialists wsre concerned, Helldorf said that in his opinion the criminal elements were usually Marxist.
