GENERAL NOTES
, The married men amongst the 'Wellington, harriers take a lot of beating. All.through the season they have been well to tho fore, and <on Saturday two of them, showed tho way to their single rivals. As indicated inthesq notes a week or two ago, AY. Barvriek, of Tasmania, intended making an attack on Nurmi's world's record for two miles. He made his attempt recently, but was unsuccessful, his time being 9min 18 3-5 sec, as against Nurmi's time of Bmin 59 3-sse<s. Nurmi's time was put up at Helsinki, Finland, on July 24, 1931. Barwick was unlucky in that the track was very heavy as a result of recent rains, and he did not equal his time over the sam'o distance made a few weeks ■earlier, viz., 9min 13 4-sscc. Nevertheless, he bettered R. A. Rose's timo of 9min 20 1-osee.
