; The opening ceremony of the Waiwetu Glub was .performed by Mr. and Mrs. J. Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell congratulated the club on its success in the Hutt Valley club championships last year; also on the erection of a pavilion, and a large increase in membership. The club's president, Mr. R. Usmar, also spoke. .''■'' Bouquets were presented to Mrs. Mitchell and to Mrs. Nash, wife of the patron of the club, by little Naucy Day. Mrs. Mitchell hit the first ball over the net. I Trophies won last season were presented by Mrs. Mitchell :to the following:—Ladies' singles championship and singles handicap, Miss Browning;^ men's singles championship. Mr. C. A. Browning; men's s.ingles handicap, Mr. W.*" Mulling; ladies' handicap doubles, Mrs. Clapham and Miss Hunter; men's handicap 'doubles, Messrs. C. A. Browning and B. Clarkson; Smith Cup (best aggregate, inter-club matches), W. Collie.
