LOWER HUTT

The Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. J. W. Andrews) performed the opening ceremony at the Lower Hutt Tennis Club's courts. The secretary of the club, Mr. M. Power, introduced Mr. Andrews, who said the council realised its duties to/ the young folk of the district in providing facilities for sport, for a healthy body meant a healthy mind. He trusted the coming year would be a successful one for the club, which he knew had had a hard struggle financially, but, said Mr. Andrews, "wo have now turned the corner—the real corner, I mean." Mr. Andrews hit the first tall over the net, thus declaring the season open.
