SYDNEY SALES

AVERAGE A PENNY LESS

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received September 30, 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The -weekly wool letter in-the "Sydney Jlorniiig Herald" says that values lor the freer types of merino have not shown any material variation, while any. alteration in the rates tor comebacks and crossbreds was in owners' favour. ■ , Of this week's offering of 51,420 bales in Sydney, 87 per cent, were sold at auction, and the week's catalogues averaged in the vicinity of 13d per lb, or Id less than the previous week. However, the. catalogue contained more buny wools than in the previous selections, and more discrimination too 'was exercised by operators. - Reports have shown a measure ot public resistance to the much-increased figures, and for the time being that resistance has checked the upward curve in the trade. But the statistical position of the raw material appears to be too strong for any decided setback in values to occur. On a clean scoured basis, 70's, spinners' merino fleece wools, made 34d pel' lb; 64's to 70s. spinners, '32d; 64's . to-. 70's ; topmakin'g -'fleece :wools, 29d ;■ average 64's, topmaking.'fleece wools,. 28d. •: '. : .
