WADESTOWN WATER

NEW SERVICE RESERVOIR

The small service reservoir is 'being constructed in Wadestown on the site of the bid trig station above Anne Street. Immediately below in the Hutt Road runs the Ororigorongo main, and the purpose of this reservoir will be to introduce the Orongorongo water into Wadestown by gravity,, a branch main running from the Hutt Boad to feed the new reservoir. At the present time Wadestown is served entirely 'by Waimii water, pumped at a heavy annual charge into a high level service reservoir at an elevation over 800 feet above sea level. This system was, of course, installed before the Orongorongo scheme was contemplated. Over threequarters of the Wadestown area can, however, be, supplied simply from Orongorongo by gravity and pumping, except to the highest levels, thereby obviated. This new reservoir will also eliminate excessive pressures, in some places now up to 2501b to the square inch, imposed on the lower services of the area due to the elevation of the present reservoir and which are the cause of considerable wastage through leakage. A contract for the erection of this tank has been let to Mr. T. Moynihan. The branch main and reticulation will' be carried out by the Corporation staff. The tank will be circular in shape, strongly constructed in reinforced concrete and . sunk into tha solid rock. I
