ROWING
EIGHT-OAR CONTEST
CENTRALISATION OPPOSED
(By Telegraph —Pres« Association.) I DUXEDIN, September 20.
At the annual meeting of the Otago Rowing Association tonight strong exception was taken to the Wellington Association's suggestion that the championship eight-oar -contest be centralised ,in Wellington. It was pointed out that the Otago Association had spent £475 in sending crews to compete in contests, and it was contended that as Otago had won the championship for five year* in~ succession and now held the Halliburton-Johnstone Trophy, it was entitled to more consideration by being granted permission to hold the 1934 contest in Dunedin. . _ The association decided to communicate w'th all Ifew Zealand rowing associations asking them strongly to oppose the contest being centralised s in Wellington.
