PETER PAN GOES OUT

BOMBSHELL FOR BACKERS

(From "Vedette.")

SYDNEY, September 15. Doubts raised about Peter Pan's condition were confirmed on Tuesday when a searching gallop at Rosebery found him out. F. McGrath has kept him away from Randwick, and all the chestnut had for a fortnight was pace work as Rosebery. On Tuesday morning he was galloped six furlongs in Imin 19scc and pulled up decidedly lame. McGrath realised immediately that the end had come and at once got in touch with the owner, Mr. R. 11. Dangar, who was away in- the country. The result was the scratching of Peter Pan from all spring races. His llandwick form emphasised the contention. ■ It is probable that his terrific race in the last Melbourne Cup has had lasting ill-effect. Although the lameness has developed in the shoulder it is obvious to a, close observer that he is not right behind either. i , After a good long holiday he may come up as well as ever again, but experience has shown that, when good horses_go wrong they are difficult to patch up. The extra effort that makes tnem top-class takes the extra bit of toll of their resources. ■•'■,...-.
