OVERSEAS TRADE RETURNS.

The overseas trade figures for August, issued yesterday by the Customs Department, show a further improvement in export values and a decrease in import values,' as compared with the returns for August, 1932. The balance in terms of New Zealand currency for the eight months of the present year is over £3,000,000 more than for the corresponding period last year. The value of the exports last month, was £2,630,630, as against £2,589,359 for August, 1932, and import values were £1,765,945 as against £1,912,009. , The returns for the eight months_tlus year show exports valued at £20,G65,739, as compared with £27,173,856 for the similar period last year, and imports valued at £13,662,045 as against £14,910,169. This year's balance to the end of August is £12,903,000, last year's ' corresponding figure being £9,895,000. The values recorded for exports are the declared f.o.b. values in terms of New Zealand currency, while the values recorded for imports are the current domestic values in the countries of export plus 10 per cent.
