PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
The trapping of birdsi onqmblic reserves was discussed at-a meeting of the-; -committee ,of the Wellington Society for the Provention oi Cruelty 1,0 Animals. It-was decided to., ask the City Council ' for permission'^ for the society, to erect notices drawing attention to the illegality and cruelty of the practice.. ~ V - '■■■,:. ■■■■''.']
The inspector^ Mr. R. A. Nieol, gave •an account of his investigations of the bobby-calf trade, both in the-northern district and in the s Wairarapa. In the former, .he said; tlie conditions were very unsatisfactory, and a great deal of 'unnecessary crufelty was caused by lack of feeding ancj of shelter. In the Wairarapa conditions were better.
A report was received on the Dehorning* of Cattle Bill which was presented to Parliament but withdrawn during last session. Arrangements were mado for a deputation to wait on the Minisl:er of Agriculture urging that it bo proceeded with after, amendment.
