REDUCED WHEAT ACREAGE
In order to ascertain as closely as possible the probable acreage of the -wheat crop for the 1934 harvest, cards have been sent out to growers by the Wheat Marketing Board, and approximately 1100 replies have been received, giving particulars of growers' areas last season, the acreage sown to the end of July, and also that intended to be sown. The total area of Canterbury and North Otago sown in 1932 was 59,708 acres; the area sown ill 1933 was 59,064 acres. On the figures available so far it would seem that the area as a whole will differ very little from that of last season—3o2,ooo acres. At the moment appearances do not encourage the belief that the yield will approach the 1033.bumper crop.
