Opitonui Developments, Ltd., reports for week ended September 9 that work had been concentrated, on getting Hilda mine ready for sampling and inspection. > Reef between Hilda west level and Powers Creek opened up and found to contain payable ore, width approximately sft. Mine assays resulted as follows (dwte gold per ton):—lo.s, 4.0, 8.0, 24.0, 3.5, 0.5, 1.0, 0.0, 18.0, average 7.72dwt, value 30s 10.36 dat £4 per oz, SOs -2.16 dat £6 10s per oz. Hilda No. 2 level: Most of the passes have collapsed and any material that was in them has run into the level and blocked the water and slurry to a depth of 2ft. Disposing of the mullock is awkward. Penetrated to a point vertically under portal of Hilda west level. Hilda No. 3 level: Short crosscut 'started- to intersect level beyond Collapsed portion. This will take two men one week to complete. As soon as -water drained off an inspection can be made from air shaft just inside Hilda No. 2 level. New reef: Two men engaged for a couple of days tracing this reef along its strike. It has been located further to south-east, where it approaches Hilda reef. . OVER EIGHT POUNDS PER OUNCE. The price fixed by the Commonwealth Bank for gold lodged at the Melbourne Mint from August 28 to September 1 was at the rate of £8 I*3 2d an ounce fine, compared with the previous price of £7 18s 3!4d an ounce. Payment was made according to assay value fourteen day,s | after the gold was lodged at the mint. The price is the highest ever recorded in Australia.
