YOUNG PROFESSIONAL'S WIN

MELBOURNE, September 10. The open golf championship was won by M. L. Kelly, the twenty-year-old professional from Goulburn (New South Wales), with a total of 302 for I four rounds. Kelly did 73 in the morning, and SO in the afternoon. Kelly had: a gallery 0f % 3000—the largest that has ever followed a golf match in Victoria. His display was brilliant, and he well deserved his victory over his experienced opponents. Tho results were: — M. L. Kelly (New South Wales), 302; It. Jupp (Victoria) and A. W. Jackson (Victoria), 305; T. Howard (New, South Wales), 300; G. Naismith (Victoria), 307; A. East (Now South Walos), 309; H. Hattersley (New South Wales), 1\ Eyre (Now South Wales), and W. L. Hope (Victoria), 311; V. Eichardson (New South Wales) and W. Bolger (New South Wales), 312; W. Clifford (Victoria), 313. Sloan Morpeth finished with 320.

Kelly after his victory was all praise for Jack Irving, of Canberra, the professional who taught him tho game.
