The shipping and machinery exhibition which has opened at Olympia, London, despite the depressing conditions in that industry for so long is an extremely healthy and progressive display. It has attracted engineers from all parts of tho world, and is expected to prove an impetus towards trado recovery, which from numerous signs appears .to be on its way.

Conditions are certainly improving in the shipyards, and last month was the best of the year on the Clyde, where five new ships wero launched ami orders for.seven others received. Similar conditions are reported from liio Tyue and other shipyards.
