WAR RELIEF
WORK OF EXECUTIVE
A meeting of the War Relief Association of Wellington was held today. There were present Messrs. C. M. Luke (in the chair), A. Macintosh, H. W. Kersley, C. Falconer, Clement Watson, Dr. T. G. Gray, and Colonel J. J, Esson.
The chairman welcomed the new members of the executive—Dr. T. G. Gray, Mr. H. W. Kersley, and Colonel J, J. Esson. He said the work of the organisation had been complex and difficult —not so much through shortness of finance as owing to various other causes. The funds for the Wellington district had been, conserved, and they had now some £18,000 in hand. About two-thirds of the work of the association now related to men out of employment. The executive would not have been able to meet the needs of these men if it had not been for periodical grants made by the War Funds Council.
It was also stated by the chairman that during the past month some 150 claims had been dealt with. There had been no alteration in the.geheral activities of the committee, assistance differing widely in description had been given to disabled soldiers, to men who were discharged fit and subsequently developed a war disability, to the widows of soldiers who fell in action, and of others dying of natural causes. Assistance had also been given to many others in necessitous circumstances.
