ALEXANDER MINES
Sir. D. A. McYiear presided at-the animal meeting of Alexander Mines, Ltd., on August 4. A holding of 43,038 shares by person and proxy, was represented. The directors' report, balance-sheet, and statement of profit and loss for year ended May 31, were received and adopted. The retiring directors—Messrs. A. l'\ ■O'Donnell and S. A. A. Fry—were re-elected; also the auditors—Messrs. Cooper and Auld. Two suggestions were received, from a Christchurch shareholder:-—(1) That the shares in the company be subdivided into shares of smaller denominations- (5s per share being suggested;;/(2) that representatives of the Press from leading newspapers be invited to make a visit of inspection of the mine at the company s expense. The meeting refused to discuss the second proposal, and in dealing with the Jirst suggestion a resolution was proposed and seconded that the question of dividing the shares into smaller denominations should be submitted to shareholders to ascertain their views. An amendment which proposed that the letter making these suggestions should be laid on the table, to be brought before the next annual general meeting of shareholders, was carried. A iinal resolution was carried to the effect that the meeting wished to impress upon the Mines Department the urgent necessity for construction of a decent road from the school and township at Alexander River to the battery, and that Ihe assistance of Messrs. M. Fagan, M.L.C., and H. E. Holland, M.P., be invoked on this matter. Mr. Bolitho, mine manager, was present, and reported that a drive had been driven out Bft to the eastward of the eastern block recently intercepted east of No. 3 level, and a strong body of ore had been cut. This has been penetrated 4ft, with no eastern wall showing. This reef is clean and solid, and is. going strong underfoot. Gold can be readily seen in the stone. ...... LONG TRAIL. REPORT. The mine manager, Long Trail Gold Mining Co., reports for the- week ended August 12 that he had been working the two faces with four men with two men cordu-roying,-metalling, and draining the haulage road from levels to battery ready to commence hauling quartz to battery .on Weflnesday. Rainy days all week interfered with work, and road is in a very.bad state. Reef in vertical winze making solid again one foot wide with nice colours in dish washing. AVill have timbered and cleared up this winze and crosscut ready to break out ore by Tuesday. Intermediate leVel. timbered and driving continued. ReVf is 18in wide,- composed of hard quartz showing fair dish prospects.
