COALITION CANDIDATE

As ii result of conferences' held in Christehurch, Mr. F. W. Freeman has been accepted as the official Coalition candidate for the Lyttelton by-election, mado necessary by the death of Mr. James McCombs. It is expected that the Labour candidate will bo announced after a meeting which is being held in tho electorate this evening. The Boy. Clyde Carr, M.P. for Tiriiaru, is representing; tho national executive of the Labour Party at the meeting, and the Hon. Mark Fagan, M.L.C., will also attend. Notice of tho vacancy will b/'c published in this week's "Gazette," and • the date of the by-election should be announced within a day or two.
