INTEREST IN CHILDREN
At a recent meeting of the Free Kindergarten Council the president (Mrs. H. E. Gibbs) welcomed' Mrs. Fair as a new member. Special mention was made of the late Mr. Gill, and the helpful interest he had always shown in. Kindergarten, activities, and deep sympathy was expressed to Mrs. Gill and .family in their sad loss. It was reported.that.during . th,e present term, which "is now almost .completed, splendid work has been done by aIL committees and 'elubß. The voluntary helpers association, formed of members of Chilton St. James Old Girls' Association, and organised by Miss Ruth Gowor, has been roost active. A beautiful collection of rag dolls has been made and dressed and will be wstributed among the various kindergartens. Other helpful work has been undertaken, which is greatly appreciated by council and staff alike. This year many committee members aio taking an individual interest iv childlcu who are in need of clothes and nourishment, while at several kindergartens special grants have been donated for extra milk for under nourished children. It was decided that during September a shilling collection will be taken up on behalf of kindergarten funds, and that at the beginning of November a special end-of-the-year effort will be held. Tbo auting-principal (Miss Holland) reported that the students' handwork will be on show at the Tarunaki Street Kindergarten on Tuesday. August Li, and will be judged by Mrs. Peterson and Mr. Cross,"of the Technical Collogi;. . It was stated that several excursions had been taken with the children during the past month, special mention being made of a visit to the Milk Depot, a place that always rejoices the hearts of the children, and in which they display great interest afterwards. The staff paid a mo6t interesting visit to the Karitane Hospital and factory and had been most kindly received by the matron. - A collection of nursery rhyme pictures had been generously donated by Mr. D. C. Peacock, and will be distributed to the various kinrlcrgartons.
